10 Things to Treat Yourself to This Month

10 Things to Treat Yourself to This September

Disclaimer: If you don’t like people who don’t like fall, proceed with caution. However, even if you love me a little less after you read this, you’re absolutely bound to fall in love with a few of these ideas for what to treat yourself to this month. After all, Gem, you deserve it!

Getting rejected

How many things do we shy away from because we’re afraid to be told “no” or an answer other than the one we want to hear? A lot. If there’s anything the past few weeks have taught me, it’s that rejection isn’t so bad and when you stop letting that fear rule you (and maybe even start conquering it), pretty cool things can happen. Head to VLOG 2 to see what happened when I made it my goal to get rejected! 😉

A pair of bright, vibrant shoes

What better way to transition from summer to fall than with the happy, make-you-smile colors of summer right on your feet? The textiles used to make ISKAY Shoes will enhance any of the tones you’re already wearing, so they’re absolutely appropriate for when the weather gets a little gloomier (and colder – ugh). There’s a funny story about me getting caught in the rain (in Disney world) while wearing these shoes right here!

Yoga poses to boost your energy

I am about a thousand times more productive and on my game when the weather is warm and sunny than when fall rolls around. So, it’s essential for me to invest a little more of my time into things that will help boost my energy and keep me going. If you know what I mean, try these 5 SIMPLE yoga poses to boost your energy (I am a certified yoga instructor, so these are legit). WARNING: this post contains a gem inspired yoga mat that you’re definitely going to want in your life because, well, you are a Gem (duh)!

A piece of art or music that speaks to you

It could be a print in a vintage frame from your favorite thrift store, or your first original oil painting to make your home, home. Art has a way of healing- you don’t have to create it to reap the benefits. Maybe it’s a painting that reminds you of what you’ve overcome, gives you hope for the future, or simply lifts your mood a little every time you look at it. Treat yourself to something that challenges you and/or brings you peace.

This tip comes from Taira Adair Campbell of Adair Artistry. She creates such gorgeous paintings, like this one below, that are so mesmerizing and relaxing to look at!

A lip gloss for color and moisture

With the cool, crisp weather of fall, your lips are bound to get dried out (why do you people like this season again?). Have you ever tried to put chapstick on and then lipstick? Doesn’t work so well, does it? But, if you put the lip color on and nix the chapstick, lips often look a little (or a lot) dry and cracked, which also wasn’t the look you were going for. Head to this post to meet Seed Body Care and their Satin Lip Gloss that softens and nourishes lips in style – it comes in 12 GORGEOUS colors!

A Soul Cycle class

I just had my first Soul Cycle experience when I was in New York City for New York Fashion Week thanks to Ravayna Coe, and I’m impressed. I’ve taken a few spin classes around Pittsburgh and was not a fan, but the dynamic nature of the Soul Cycle class and the bits of inspiration sprinkled in were definitely something I could get down with more often if I lived in a different city (there aren’t any locations in Pittsburgh). But, if there’s one near you, definitely try it out! When we started cooling down, I was surprised class was over; that’s how fast it went by.

A mug for a cause

You already know I’m a huge fan of Cricket Lane Studio from my 4 Brands Built by Entrepreneurs Dealing with Depression post, but if you haven’t gotten yourself a mug yet, now’s the time! Check out Chelsey’s story.
“During last year’s election, I started to feel lost and like I needed some way to be able to fight for what I believed in. The only thing I could think of was to create a Cricket Lane Studio product to help raise money for causes near and dear to my heart. I was able to raise over $1,200 toward Planned Parenthood in 2 or 3 months. After seeing that success, I added a mug to raise money for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (which is another cause near and dear to my heart).

Beachy hair all year long

In case you haven’t noticed, I am not one of those, “OMG, my life gets better when it’s bombarded with pumpkin spice everything” kind of girls. Give me the sun, sand, beach, and summer everyday, pretty please. And so, while I can’t have summer for the entire year, I can create beachy hair whenever I want (without the damage and crunch) with the new Hawaiian Sea Salt Beach Texture Collection from HASK, available at Ulta Beauty. It includes a shampoo, conditioner, and a “Makin’ Waves” texture spray (my favorite of the three!).

S’mores Frozen Coffee

With fall approaching, s’mores by the fire might not be quite as accessible, but this s’mores frozen coffee recipe from Quirky Inspired will ensure you can get your campfire treat fix in any time of year!

NeoStrata’s Foaming Glycolic Wash

The small molecules in Glycolic Acid make it great at removing dead skin cells to aid against fine lines and acne. Ever since adult acne decided to surprise me in my mid twenties, I’ve had the delight of acquiring acne scars. I’m pleased to report I have seen some fading in them since I started to use NeoStrata’s Foaming Glycolic Wash about three months ago! I love that this face wash is formulated to minimize the potential for irritation that comes with using products with glycolic acid in them. I use this every other day (you may be able to use it up to twice a day depending on your tolerance), but I recommend starting with once a week and seeing how your skin reacts before working your way up to more frequent use.
