The holidays are a time of extra work, projects, events, cooking, shopping and everyday life in between. All that being said, while the season does bring a great deal of joy, it’s also a time for a tremendous amount of stress! Traveling for the holidays, buying gifts, staying on a budget, and making spectacular feasts can be enough to send someone over the edge! Here are my fool proof tips for managing stress during the crazy holiday season.
1. Plan ahead
I am a big proponent of planning, in case you haven’t noticed by now. Planning your schedule ahead of time will help you get through it with ease. See what is on your calendar for the week then plan accordingly. For example, if you know you’re going to be crunched for time, plan to make some easy crock pot meals to get you through the week. Or, buy that hostess gift online to save you time running to the store, which would take you ever longer than usual with the extra holiday crowds and traffic. If you are going to a party and need to bring a dish, decide what you’re making and prepare it ahead of time so you can get ready with ease the day of.
2. Routines
Make sure you keep up with your daily workout routine. It will help you release tension, stave off illness and keep you energized throughout the season! It’s also the perfect time of year to implement yoga and meditation, which both encourage balance and calming as we give thanks and reflect on all our blessings.

3. SLEEP!
If you are planning ahead, you should be able to plan to get enough sleep. When I don’t get enough sleep I am cranky, I am foggy and I am not on top of my game. Getting enough rest allows me to power through my days and be productive, happy and healthy. Besides, no one likes a grump around the holidays!
4. Shop online
I have completely changed my shopping habits – it was hard, but worth it. By shopping online, I have saved so much time, money, aggravation and frustration. Embracing the online shopping experience provides little luxuries like getting to skip the crowds, avoiding having to wait in line, and you can shop from the comfort of your pajamas (Arial Adult Hooded Onesie anyone?). Then, all you have to do is sit back and relax while everything gets delivered straight to your door. Also, many companies now offer free gift wrapping! Can’t beat that!
5. Delegate responsibility
Do not be afraid to ask for help! So many people try and do it all themselves and it’s just not necessary or healthy. If you have kids, divvy out chores and responsibilities they can handle to give you a break. It will teach them valuable lessons about life and helping others. Also, ask your significant other to take on some tasks to give you some relief and ask friends and family to contribute a side dish, dessert or bring the alcohol if you are hosting holiday gatherings.
Hopefully following these tips will keep you happy, healthy, relaxed and calm throughout all the hustle and bustle! You will be refreshed and ready for the New Year!
