I have read more than half of the books on this list and the other 1/4 are on my to-discover list. Life is an unwritten journal. Each day is a new page and every month becomes a new chapter. So exploring other people’s approach to life is helpful when learning how to write and unlock your own story.
First, you envision what your best life looks like, and then you get to create the enjoyable/tough/wouldn’t change it for the world parts of your life. All these books below will help you continue your journey in truth.
If you are ready to dig deep and make many break-throughs, then these are the self development books for you!
Books for Self Development:
You Are a Badass | By: Jen Sincero
This book will give you a good kick in the ass and make you laugh it off. She talks to you like a friend would, while inspiring you to love yourself every step of the way.
The Untethered Soul | By: Michael A. Singer
Even though it’s not a bible, it became the closest thing to one during a rough patch in my life… Ohhhh high school. It takes you to parts of yourself you never were aware you had. I felt re-born again reading and re-reading The Untethered Soul.
The 4 Agreements | By: don Miguel Ruiz
I don’t want to give away what the agreements are in this book, but you would be shocked at how easy it is to implement them into your life to live and attract better things.
No Matter What: 9 Steps to Living the Life you Want! | By: Lisa Nichols
Lisa Nichols is my hero, although her story is not for the weak of heart. What she had to endure makes you realize that NO MATTER WHAT happens in life you have the power to change and take action. The bonus to this book are the exercises at the end of every chapter.
The Secret | By: Rhonda Byrne
Not only is this a book, but it is on Netflix too! So if reading isn’t your thing I guess you could cheat and watch the documentary. I suggest doing both. They have wonderful quotes and stories from guest writers. The Secret will make a believer out of you to create the best life for yourself.
Journey to the Heart: Daily Meditations on the Path to Freeing Your Soul | By: Melody Beattie
“Live your life from your heart. Share from your heart. And your story will touch and heal people’s souls.” This is one of many quotes from Beattie that I have seen popping up on people’s Instagram captions or on Facebook. It was impossible not to connect with all of them so I realized I needed to check it out for myself!
Love x Style x Life | By: Garance Dore
Sometimes when reading someone else’s story it inspires you to create your own. Since many of us are in the blogging kingdom in some form, turning these pages is a great way to learn from one of the best.
Awaken the Giant Within: How to Take Immediate Control of Your Mental, Emotional, Physical and Financial Destiny! | By: Tony Robbins
First of all, Tony Robbins was one of the very first people to appear in the self-help world. He has been all over the country and changed thousands of lives. Reading anything by him is bound to inspire you. He has a way of making you think why you do what you do and where do your self-inhibiting thoughts stem from. He also has a documentary out on Netflix that you may want to check out called, Tony Robbins: I Am Not Your Guru.
I must say it is hard to not sound cheesy to people when talking about self-help, inspirational quotes and just about anything positive. I’ve found this to be true because it is difficult for people to dig deep and really reflect on why they are the way they are. Most of us busy ourselves with work and addictive behaviors that don’t allow us to see the true possibilities of our lives. Becoming aware of these people’s stories will encourage you to go on the never ending journey of self-discovery. When you are ready to take charge and make a difference with your life, these are great stepping stones to get you there. No one is saying it will be easy, but it will be worth it.
Remember, you can’t just read and expect a huge change. The stories will start a catalyst within your brain and the knowledge you gain will become powerful. But if you do not take action towards growth with the new found knowledge, then nothing will happen from just reading or day-dreaming.
Read a little, write more, and live a lot because when you look back on your life at an old age you want to know you gave it everything you could.
Since I am a sucker for inspiration quotes let’s end this with some wisdom from the king of self-help, Buddha.
“A man who conquers himself is greater than one who conquers a thousand men in battle.”
P.S. Thanks mom for helping me write my story.
