I’m doing a happy dance about this post because I honestly never thought I’d be pulling off any kind of summer chic off shoulder look. Until now, every off shoulder dress or shirt I’ve tried on has either cut off the circulation in my arms or made my shoulders/upper body look broader than it actually is. But, a few weeks ago when I was at a Style Collective (if you’re a blogger or fashion influencer, definitely check that out!) meet up at Vintage Grace Boutique here in Pittsburgh, I picked up the cutest off shoulder dress and I cannot stop wearing it.

The Look: Vintage Grace Boutique dress and earrings // Slip-on shoes // Love & Chambray choker
Before you give up, size up
I work hard for my arm muscles, so there’s some meat on my bones and I find that most off shoulder pieces are too tight around my arms in my typical size. In fact, I almost didn’t get this dress because the small didn’t fit me right, but after trying on the medium, I was sold.
Say “yes” to soft stripes
I’m convinced that the reason I’m so head over heels for this dress is the lengthening illusion that the soft, vertical stripes provide. Since this is from a local boutique, the exact one isn’t available online, but I was able to find you a few similar and equally darling options like this one with red strips, this stunning navy maxi option, this linen dress, this playful neutral option, the stripes on this one look so similar to my dress, and I love the beachy vibes of this dress.
What shoes?
Off shoulder dresses pair great with casual flats or summery wedge espadrilles. In this look, I’ve styled this dress with my favorite white eyelet slips ons (also seen here and here) that are only $14! For an evening look, even the simplest off shoulder dresses look elegant with a pair of ankle strap shoes like these or these.
Simple accessories
Here I’m wearing my favorite rose gold chocker from Love & Chambray with simple stud earrings which are also from Vintage Grace Boutique. Simple accessories key the focus on the dress, which is the hero of an outfit like this, but also adds a touch of glam and elegance. I definitely suggest going with a chocker to keep the look feeling unfussy, and the line of a chocker will compliment the line of the dress. Rather than a tote or crossbody, style your off shoulder dress with a clutch or handheld bag (like this trendy straw bag) that won’t interfere with or interrupt the dress’s placement shoulders.
The bra situation
Finding a bra that you can wear with an off shoulder dress is definitely impossible. I have these reusable adhesive nipple covers and they are by far the most important secret weapon I’ve ever purchased. I use them all the time and every pair I’ve had has lasted me literally years. They stick really well! The trick is to wash them with soap and water after every use so that they stay clean, which helps keep them sticky. Sometimes if it’s a sweaty day, I’ll wash and dry them in the bathroom real quick and then put them back on (but I only ever have to do that on like 100 degree days or walking around Disney all day). If you need more support, try this invisible uplift bra.
