Outift Details: London Times Lola Jumpsuits [c/o] | Report Shoes
You may have noticed, but I have quite the affinity for jumpsuits. As much as I love dresses, jumpsuits merge practicality with effortless style and are especially perfect for occasions that require a lot of moving around like when I’m behind the camera photographing a family session, spending the day playing with my niece, or when traveling.
In my conversations with you Gems on social media, it has come to my attention that you really want to wear jumpsuits, but you have two major concerns which are:
1) Going to the bathroom – I’m not kidding you when I say that countless people have told me “I love jumpsuits until I have to pee”. Listen, I don’t have any advice other than to tell you that it’s worth the sacrifice and in time, you’ll get more efficient at handling this situation, haha.
2) You have no idea how to find the right jumpsuit for your shape. This one I can help you with! Please trust me when I say that there is a jumpsuit out there for you and today, I’m going to explain how to find the perfect jumpsuit for you!
Last week my sister (the one who just had a baby) and I wore our Lola Jumpsuits from London Time as we were exploring New Bern, NC and taking photos. I was so excited to shoot this content and write this post because I truly believe finding a jumpsuit you love is life-changing! I love the quality, price points, and fit of London Time styles too, so I’m equally as excited to be featuring the brand again today!
Let me preface the following styling advice you’ll find in this post by telling you that THERE ARE NO RULES. You should first and foremost always pick the styles that you feel the most confident in regardless is they are what is “recommend” for your shape, height, and size. At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is finding yourself outfits that you feel ready to take on the world in! So, this post is just a starting point if you’re feeling lost on how to find the perfect jumpsuit for you!
If you’re average
Check out: The Lola Jumpsuit | The Carmine Jumpsuit | The Layla Jumpsuit
This is the category I fall into! I’m not curvy but I’m not not curvy. I’m not short, but I’m not tall. I’m just kind of in the middle across the board. I fell in love with the faux wrap surplice neckline of the Lola jumpsuit. The cropped length and loose – but not overly wide – leg was perfect for my average height and muscular figure. I’m thankful for my average frame because it gives me wiggle room to play with a lot of different, fun styles. For example, I love a peplum cut and think the Carmine jumpsuit is both sophisticated and adorable! Every woman can wear a peplum style as long as the narrowest pair of the garment hits at your natural waist (the narrowest part of your torso) and the flare hits at the widest part of your hips. I also tend to lean into universally flattering styles like the Layla Jumpsuit.
If you’re not curvy
Check out: The Nicole Jumpsuit | The Tati Jumpsuit | The Charlie Jumpsuit | The Meggie Jumpsuit
Cinched and elastic waistlines like what you see with the Charlie jumpsuit will help add create shade to your figure. If you’re apple-shaped where your shoulders are broader than your hips, v-neck styles and faux wrap style will be super flattering on your frame. Styles with waistline details like the Tati jumpsuit or the Meggie jumpsuit can also work well to create the illusion of an hourglass figure. Plus, if you don’t identify as being busty, you can even totally rock high neckline styles like the Nicole jumpsuit.
If you’re curvy
Check out: The Lola Jumpsuit | The Layla Jumpsuit | The Raven Jumpsuit
A lot of jumpsuits tend to be tight and fitted at the hips, but my recommendation for you is to look for styles with a defined waistline that have a looser, flowier fit through the hips like the Lola jumpsuit, the Layla jumpsuit, and the Raven jumpsuit. If you’re curvy through the hips (pear-shaped), try an off the shoulder jumpsuit to add balance to your frame. For plus-size options, London Times also has an incredible Curve collection that you can’t go wrong with! Even the Lola jumpsuit is available in the curve cut!
If you’re tall
Check out: The Janci Jumpsuit | The Cherilyn Jumpsuit | The Rea Jumpsuit
Your biggest struggle is going to be finding a jumpsuit with enough length for you. Aline or drop-waist jumpsuits are typically a safer bet when it comes to fabric in the torso compared to empire styles. You’ll also look amazing in structured jumpsuits like the Janci jumpsuit. Wide leg jumpsuits like the Cherilyn jumpsuit are another excellent choice since your tall frame can handle a lot of fabric. If you’re iffy on length, choose a cropped style like the Rae jumpsuit so that you have some wiggle room at the hem rather than having to worry about it being an awkward inch or two short.
If you had a baby
Check Out: The Lola Jumpsuit | The Tatiana Jumpsuit
If you’re like my sister and recently had a baby (or not recently), you want to look for something that accentuates but doesn’t squeeze your waist or belly. Instead of styles that are tightly cinched at the waist or have elastic, look for options like the Lola jumpsuit or the Tatiana jumpsuit that taper right at the waistline and then become loose and flowy after. You’ll especially love styles with an empire or a higher waist. It’s also a great time to wear prints which highlight your overall figure while drawing attention away from your belly.
If you’re petite
Check out: The Lola Petite Jumpsuit | The Charlie Petite Jumpsuit | The Becca Petite Jumpsuit
Something else I hear a lot is, “I want to love jumpsuits but I’m too short and none of them look right on me”. Because jumpsuits are one piece, they are actually one of the best options for making you look taller! The perfect jumpsuit for you will likely have a waistline where the smallest part of the jumpsuit sits at your natural waist. To ensure that the jumpsuit doesn’t overpower your figure, opt for one that’s more fitted at the top even if the legs are flowy or wide. Since jumpsuits are so popular, many brands have even been releasing them in petite sizing! London Times offers the Lola jumpsuit in petite sizes (that’s the one my sister and I are both wearing in this post). A few of my other recommendations that come in petites are the Charlie jumpsuit (great for creating shape), the Becca jumpsuit (perfect for work or play), and the Reba jumpsuit for special occasions.
