The Look: Liverpool Denim Jacket (also styled here) | Gal Meets Glam Jumpsuit (blue is no longer available but the purple and black versions are on sale!) | Location: Macaron Bar Pittsburgh | Photos: Alex Barone
One of the easiest, most effortless looks that you can create, is going for a jumpsuit and denim jacket combo. Jumpsuits are incredible because they are so easy to dress up or down. When you add one to your wardrobe, you can feel confident knowing you’ll be able to style it for a variety of occasions and often throughout different seasons as well. Obviously this look is for all ages, too! This is the jumpsuit on the little lady and this is the denim jacket she’s wearing.
While the white denim jacket and cropped jumpsuit keep this particular outfit a bit more spring and summer outfit side of things, you can create this look for any season! Keep scrolling for tips on how to style a denim jacket with a jumpsuit.
The right jumpsuit
Jumpsuits can be a bit intimidating if you haven’t invested in one yet, so you might find this post on how to find the right jumpsuit for your body shape helpful. However, once you find the right one for you, I promise you won’t stop wearing it. I feel like I’m really winning at life when I wear a jumpsuit. Looking put-together in something that is as comfortable as pajamas just doesn’t seem like it should be possible. So, it makes me feel like I’m accomplishing the impossible! I’ve included some comfy, casual options below. You can also check out this post for dressier jumpsuit options.
The right denim jacket
First of all, if you want to optimize the jumpsuit and denim jacket look, you need a stretchy denim jacket. You don’t want a stiff, restricting jean jacket ruining the comfort of your jumpsuit! I highly recommend the denim jackets from Liverpool. I’m wearing a classic white one from the brand (which I styled here as well) in these photos and it honestly changed my entire perspective on denim jackets. Here are more color options of denim jackets in their innovative, stretchy fabric:
How do you wear a denim jacket with a jumpsuit?
The next important thing to consider is what’s going on at the waistline of the outfit. If you tend to gravitate towards flowier outfits, adding a denim jacket over a loose jumpsuit with a less defined waistline will help add shape and contrast to your look without drawing extra attention to your midsection. Similarly, the simple addition of a denim jacket can make waist-defining styles seem more doable if they are something you don’t always reach for! Here are a few slightly waist-defining jumpsuits to consider:
If you love showing off your waistline, you’ll want to opt for a jumpsuit that really accents it to maintain your figure when you add the jacket on top. Styles that cinch, wrap, and tie will be the way to go!
My Jumpsuit with Denim Jacket Look
The jumpsuit I have on here (on sale right now for under $65 in black or purple!) does come with a waist tie. However, I removed it for this outfit because I was going a relaxed look. Since the pant portion of this jumpsuit is rather flowy, I went for a more fitted jacket to balance out the look. However, for a jumpsuit without such a wide leg, like one that has a tapered jogger style leg, a boyfriend style denim jacket would be appropriate to try.
If your shape is less curvy, it won’t really matter where the waistline of the jumpsuit lies in comparison to the end of your jacket. However, if you’re curvier like I am, I suggest choosing a jumpsuit and jacket combo where the waistline of the jumpsuit and the end of the jacket land at least a few inches from each other. For example, in this outfit, the jumpsuit features a high waist, while the denim jacket ends around the widest part of my hips. If the jumpsuit had a lower waistline, it probably wouldn’t have flattered my shape enough for me to blog about it!
