This past Wednesday was my birthday and when I came downstairs in the morning, a gift bag was sitting on the couch. I wasn’t expecting anything because it’s been 4 months since Shaun and I broke up (updates on that in my Sunday Edits). Yes, we still live together.
On top was a thoughtfully written note speaking to my character as a human and telling me never to let the madness life throws my way break me. I’m an over-sharer (shocking, I know). I want to talk about and express my feelings all the time. And, I like knowing where the other people in my life stand emotionally, too. Shaun, on the other hand, has always been more reserved. So, I haven’t really known what he’s been thinking over the course of this whole breakup because we’ve pretty much kept to ourselves other than some casually awkward conversations to check in with each other on how we’re doing. That being said, it meant a lot to me that he took the time to write out something from the heart that showed we’re capable of supporting and encouraging each other as friends even though part of our story has ended.

The Look: CALIA Hoodie, CALIA Leggings
My heart skipped a beat when I then saw ribbed, velvet, mauve-y purple fabric in the bag. I took it out of the tissue paper thinking that this velvet hoodie was too good to be true (you’ve done it again, CALIA!). If you had to put who I am as a person into a hoodie, this would be it. It is literally my idea of activewear heaven – jewel-toned, so comfortable, and has a touch of glamour! Today, I even wore it with boots for a less athleisure-y, but still effortless look. He also got me a pair of CALIA leggings, which I’ll be wearing nonstop. I have a bunch of their pants and I’m also so thrilled with how well they hold up! I’ve worn a lot of yoga pants and when it comes to fit, CALIA is my favorite! You can’t go wrong with a pair of the “Essential Leggings”.
This whole broken up but still living together thing is so weird to navigate through, Gems. Truth be told, we’ve had absolutely no idea how to go about it.
Yesterday, it was nice that we laughed a few times together. I had on a *very* chic outfit that he made fun of me for – it consisted of 3 sizes too big sweatpants, a bright blue pajama shirt with owls on it (if you watch my insta stories, you know the one – it regularly makes an appearance), and purple socks with yellow baby chics on them (I think they were in my Easter basket like 7 years ago?). We ordered a pizza and somehow ended up with two orders of breadsticks. After we ate some out of the first box, I moved on to the next and he was like, “did you open that one to get the fat ones?” I nodded as I chuckled.
Okay, so maybe it was more laughing AT me, but we were both laughing so it was fine. I did hard-core judge him for some WWE Halloween thing he was watching that didn’t even involve wrestling.
Forming a friendship by the time our lease is up in April is something we both want to make a priority, but we’ve been struggling with figuring out how to do so. It’s weird to go from relationship to friendship, especially when you’re still living under the same roof. But, I feel like maybe, just maybe, we’re starting to lay the groundwork for that.
Thank you mom and Alyssa for taking these photos <3
