Bloggers Know Best: The Geek Chick

We love bloggers that encourage their readers to engage in their geeky and chic sides, so meeting Camila from the Geek Chick Blog was amazing. Not only does she have impeccable style, she also offers solid advice on cosplay, fashion, and life. Packed full of her own adventures, readers will love this fabulously fun and upbeat blog.

Camila was kind enough to give us an insider’s scoop on all things Geek Chick.

1. How did you start The Geek Chick Blog?

I started the Geek Chick Blog for two reasons. The first one was the fact I was approaching the end of my undergraduate program and I still wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my life and I had always loved fashion so much I decided to jump in the water and finally start a blog documenting my outfits and my style, sharing stories I liked, and finding my voice. The second one was I was tired of the criticism on my body so I decided that instead of hating it so much I’d try an experiment of loving it instead and publishing it where strangers could see it on a weekly basis and see how that worked out.

2. What made you venture into the vlogging side?

I honestly thought it would be a lot of fun. One of my friends suggested it and taught me how to edit videos so it became a fun little project for me to do. I haven’t been able to do any in a while but I’ve got an idea for the vlogging that will soon debut on the blog.

3. I noticed you have a cosplay section on your blog. This is such a huge topic and trend, what ways would you like to grow this section?

Well I’ve been thinking of ways to enhance this section and I would like to start experimenting with make-up to create more cosplay looks and I want to start featuring cosplayers in the blog because they’re honestly so talented and creative! I can never create exact replicas of costumes like that. Some tutorials on how to get a character look would be pretty cool as well.

4. What’s the biggest advice you’d give to aspiring bloggers?

Work really hard. Success doesn’t come over night and if you really want your blog to work out you’re going to need to put in the effort every day. Also, don’t get caught up in numbers, if one person checks out your blog and comments that’s a huge thing that this one individual that might live in the other side of the world is recognizing you and telling you about how you impacted their day. This is what really matters.

5. What does the future hold for your blog? Any big plans?

I am planning on redesigning it and debuting a new layout very soon, which is really exciting and it’s going to make it much easier to navigate, so that’s going to be a lot of fun! For me, what’s really been the norm is that when I least expect it, an adventure pops up and it makes for great blogging opportunities, so expect the unexpected!

A huge thank you to Camila for her kind and inspirational words. Fellow book lovers and cosplayers can all gush over Camila’s posts and adventures.
