Amanda Guevara is giving a new meaning to “wear your heart on your sleeve.” Amanda began dreaming of starting her own clothing line in high school, but never believed it was an option. It wasn’t until her husband caught her sketching on their honeymoon that the dream became a reality. As soon as they returned home, Free Your Heart Apparel was born.
Since the company’s launch in 2012, Amanda’s designs have caught the eye of thousands of women, including reality star Jessie James Decker and country music singer Sara Evans. “Just the feeling of knowing that we did this and seeing girls in our clothes is the most rewarding,” says Amanda. “It’s the reason that we keep this company going.”
Every piece is 100% handmade in Los Angeles with the softest fabrics available to create an impeccable fit and beautiful silhouette. The line embraces Southern charm and irresistible sweetness with tees and tanks featuring sayings like “blame it on my wild heart” and “whiskey in a teacup.” Amanda finds inspiration through music, travel, and love and always has a notepad nearby for sketching. When the normal stresses of running a business arise, Amanda turns to her support system. ”My husband, the other half of FYHA, is seriously the most positive person so you have no choice but to keep going. There’s no quitting in this household.”
The pair’s positive attitude has translated into their business in the form of a lifestyle that dares women to dream. Free Your Heart Apparel’s mission is to empower women to overcome obstacles, let go of the negative, love more, and dream bigger. Amanda wants her designs and her story to inspire other women to pursue their dreams, no matter how daunting they may be. She says her “free your heart” moment lies in “having the confidence to run my own business and pursue my dream while hoping to serve as a role model to other women to chase their dreams.”
The simple lesson in Amanda’s story is what makes it so beautiful: having the courage to live the life you’ve always dreamed of is well worth the risk.
