The Connection Between Passion and Purpose

You are the purpose. Things will connect and happen naturally, so have patience.

As a young child, we are asked multiple times what we want to be when we grow up. But how many times were we asked what our passion was? If you were lucky enough to be asked that question, I am sure your answer was simple for a young mind. Passions are uncomplicated and give you life, and then eventually they become a purpose bigger than you could ever imagine. So if you were to ask me how to you align your passion with your purpose I would say this, “You are the purpose. Things will connect and happen naturally, so have patience.”

I am a young woman who has no idea what she wants to do with the rest of her life, but I do have an inkling as to what my purpose might be. That may sound crazy to some. If you think about it, it is not so hard to believe. It is my belief that everyone’s experiences try to teach them valuable lessons, whether small or life altering. Hopefully, these lessons become a part of who we are. Now for me, my passion is to inspire and help others. I do not want this to become a career path or something that is labeled as a job or task. This is something I am 100% dedicated to because I trust this is part of my journey and purpose in life.

I want to help others learn to cope with everyday struggles and see the best in themselves. This passion comes from a very personal place. As a young girl, I dwelled on the negative. I was in a depressed state, but I would never admit that to myself or anyone else. I isolated myself into the category of weird and different, which made me feel alone. I thought having supportive parents, a roof over my head, good friends, and being a part of many athletic teams was everything I needed to be happy. So why didn’t I feel happy? Eventually, I came to the realization that I was the reason I wasn’t happy, and I put too much pressure on others to bring me happiness. Once I figured out how to love myself and live in the moment, which is still an everyday struggle for me, balancing life became easier.

As my mom once said, “If there is one thing I know it’s that I don’t know.” Just when I thought I had it together something life changing occurred in my family. My uncle committed suicide, and my family and I were not prepared for the long journey to recovery. This unexpected moment changed the course of our lives forever. After months of coming to terms with his death, I knew I needed to start telling others how much they meant to me. If there was any way that I could save one person’s life by listening to their insecurities, fears, anxieties, stresses, or troubles then by all means, I was going to do it. It was then that my passion became my purpose. I was going to do everything in my power to help others find their value in the universe.

Just as I have discovered, a purpose is something we are born with. I believe we all have something special within us and sometimes we need a little help discovering it. It is through the ups and downs of life that this is realized. Look around you. What gives you life? What gives you a drive or makes you excited to wake up in the morning? What drives you crazy with frustration because you care so much about it? When you do find your passion, I hope you realize that your purpose is actually you! You are the reason you need to wake up everyday because your passion is what is going to make this world a better place for everyone to live.
