In This Post: The cravings for the feelings that spring and summer give us are nearly insatiable during the fall and winter months, but we found a delightful sliver of that feeling at Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens! There are no words to do it justice (photos help), so we strongly encourage planning your own visit!

It’s no secret to anyone who knows me that I crave the feeling of spring and summer on a year-round basis. Unfortunately, living in Pittsburgh puts a major damper on that possibility. With that being said, Allyn and I try to find any and every opportunity to experience at least a little bit of that feeling during the fall and winter seasons. One of those experiences came in the form of Phipps Conservatory, a gem that has been right under my nose this whole time.
While Allyn has been there a number of times, this was my first time experiencing the comforting and relaxing atmosphere of the botanical garden and glasshouse. It was easy to get lost in the vibrant colors of the unique plants mixed in with the vast greenery; so much so that I had to remind myself several times that it was actually freezing and still winter outside. As we traveled from room to room to view the great number of exhibits stationed throughout the conservatory, it was impossible to ignore the passion and care that is given to each plant. Everything was so charmingly displayed that we literally couldn’t put the camera down for a minute. It’s difficult to truly describe the sights Phipps Conservatory offers (hopefully the photos will help!), so if you ever have the opportunity, I would absolutely recommend setting some time aside to check it out for yourself!
I don’t think anything can exactly replicate the feeling I get from being outdoors during spring and summer, but the feeling I got from visiting Phipps Conservatory was definitely comparable. Every year, it’s a struggle for me to combat the winter blues (here are some of our favorite ways to beat seasonal struggles), so I’m appreciative of anything that can pull me out, even if only for a short time. This little slice of the outdoors settled in the heart of the city gave me new hope for a tolerable winter in the northeastern part of the country. I guess Pittsburgh isn’t always so bad after all.

Like Shaun, winter and coldness just aren’t my things. I can’t hate too much on this winter though because it’s where we began to finally got our feet back on the ground. Life has started to level out for us in many areas where we used to feel an immense amount of stress (like finances). The spring and summer months are always where I achieve the most progress. I feel even more ready than usual for growth and change this spring!
As an entrepreneur, it can be really frustrating feeling “out of season”. It’s the little things about spring and summer that improve my life, like vibrant scenery, comforting temperatures, and being outside. As this post covers, a little bit of nature goes such a long way. Phipps Conservatory was able to give me a little piece of that, which I’m extremely grateful for! Every corner we turned brought more delightful colors and flowers. I’d spend more words describing it, but I feel nothing I can write would do the setting justice. I am obsessed with the photos we took, but even they only capture a sliver of the beauty Phipps Conservatory delivers in person!
These photos are from March (we’re trying to get a better system going to have posts fall more in real time rather than awhile after!). The day we went here was one of the best days of the chillier months for me. I felt more like myself and more energetic than I had for awhile. I hope that like us, most of you are past the point of cold weather, but what I love about conservatories is that many of them change seasonally, so there are new flowers every time you go! Even if you aren’t in Pittsburgh, most substantial cities seem to have some sort of conservatory or botanical garden that you can visit.
