It’s time for a Herschel Backpack Review! Meet my Herschel Nova Mid Backpack – a classic, everyday bag that I’ve been putting to good use over the past two months. Plus, where to find it on sale! | Photos by Shaun Novak
Always ready to add a new classic to my bag collection, I recently purchased the Herschel Nova Mid Backpack. I watch my 2 year old niece multiple days a week, so I was looking for something that would function as a diaper bag without looking like one. Something I could use on outing with a toddler but also felt comfortable sporting on my own adventures, too. After reading a ton of Herschel Backpack Reviews online, I knew this was the backpack for me and I haven’t looked back since.

Herschel Nova Backpack Review
The Nova Backpack comes in a few different sizes: mini, small, and mid-volume. There’s also a Sprout Nova Backpack, which looks nearly the same but has some extra features for when you have a little one in tow (I would have bought this one if I knew about it at the time).
Helpful, essential features
I’m showing off the mid-volume option today in the “Blue Mirage Crosshatch” colorway. The color is quite versatile and I always feel like it complements whatever I’m wearing. It’s a simple, lightweight, no fuss backpack. There’s an outer zipper pocket, an internal 13″ laptop sleeve, and two bottle pockets on the sides. I prefer to own some bags like this – without too many internal pockets – so that I can customize it based on the day. Sometimes I’ll use a purse organizer or a few different zipper pouches to keep smaller items organized. Other days, having the option for one large open space is much more practical.
I can’t begin to tell you how much I appreciate that there are two metal zippers. That way, you can position them to meet at the top of the bag for easier access compared to when there’s just one zipper that goes all the way around the bag’s opening.
What can it hold?
I love that this bag maintains its structure and look regardless of if I have it jam packed or nearly empty. On the note, I’m always impressed with the amount of stuff I can fit in it. As a photographer, I almost always have my camera with me. I often put it in the bottom of my Nova backpack (protected with a few padded dividers from another bag). Followed by an extra toddler outfit, diapers, and wipes. Then, snacks and a zipper pouch with my personal essentials. I can also fit my laptop in with all of this if needed. The Herschel Nova Mid Backpack size is 16″(H) x 12″(W) x 5.5″(D), with an 18L capacity.
Is this a good bag for traveling?
I haven’t gone on any trips recently, so I haven’t used this bag for traveling, but I imagine it will come in handy for that as well. If you need a more serious option for adventures, be sure to check out the raved about Herschel Little America Backpack. All of the backpacks by Herschel are highly regarded in reviews online for their durability and functionality.
