Nap dresses have become a wardrobe staple for many after recently shifting to an at-home life-style in 2020. However, Hill House Home, the brand behind the original Nap Dress, first introduced this quintessential summer dress a few years ago and continues to be the MVP of the nap dress market. The appeal is, this dress is comfy enough to sleep in, charming enough to make you feel like a princess, and practical enough for afternoon outdoor adventures (or chasing a toddler). After years of coming across Hill House Nap Dress Reviews from my favorite bloggers, I finally decided to add a nap dress to my wardrobe.
Hill House Ellie Nap Dress Review
The Ellie Nap Dress from Hill House is a marriage between a nightgown and a day dress. I just got back from a trip to Hershey, PA with my family and this was the perfect dress for exploring Hershey Gardens on a cloudless, nearly 90 degree day. It’s 100% cotton, which gives that breathable, breezy attitude I crave in a summer dress.
Since it’s white and cotton, naturally it is slightly sheer. However, I feel very comfortable wearing nude underwear. The fabric is abundant and flowy, so I don’t feel like you can see anything when it’s on. I adore how this dress fits (more on that in a minute). Having put on a few extra pounds recently, I’m struggling right now to find pieces that makes me feel amazing. This dress, however, rose to the occasion!
From the moment I put it on, I was easily able to justify the $125 I spent on it based on the fabric quality, careful construction, and figure-flattering silhouette.
Notes on sizing and fit
So far, I can only personal speak on Hill House Ellie Nap Dress sizing, but she does run big. I’m between a small and a medium when it comes to most pieces of clothes right now. The website says to size down in you are between sizes, so I thought I’d be set with a small. Unfortunately, it was still too big. The dress itself fit fine, but the smocking at the bust was loose and didn’t leave me feeling secure. I read that you can get away without wearing a bra with the nap dress, so that was my ultimate goal!
After keeping a very watchful eye, I was able to get my hands on an extra small, which worked out so much better for me! It isn’t tight at all and hugs my chest just right. I do have a smaller bust (34B), so if that isn’t the case for you, I’d say you’re fine to go with the smaller size. However, if you’re like me without much going on up top, you might want to consider sizing down 1.5 to 2 sizes. The rest of the dress after the smocking is loose and flowy, so there’s no need to size up for any reason.
Other Hill House Home Dress Styles
In this post, we’re covering the midi length Ellie Nap Dress, but Hill House Home also has shorter options with the Athena Nap Dress and the Katherine Nap Dress. For more length, see the Sabrina Dress or the Caroline Nap Dress, which you can style on or off the shoulders! The Nesli Nap Dress offers a mid length style with elbow sleeves if you’re looking for something similar to the Ellie dress with more arm coverage. AND, they even make tiny Ellie Nap Dresses for littles. Trust me, you have no idea the amount of self-control it took not to buy one for my niece!
What about wrinkles?
Wrinkles are not a concern – I pulled this dress straight out of my suitcase for these photos and I don’t mind the wrinkles one bit. They add texture and character that works with the style of the dresses instead of against it, which is so rare for a 100% cotton piece!
How to style a nap dress
This dress speaks for itself. Personally, I feel like adding any accessories to this dress would take away from its effortless nature. Since adding it to my wardrobe, I’ve been pairing it with these insanely comfortable Franco Sarto loafers and adding a classic white denim jacket if I need another layer. While this particular print seems rather summer-ready, Alex from Adored by Alex has me feeling inspired to add another to my wardrobe next season with her fall nap dress outfit and layered looks. I also love Carly Riordan’s green layered nap dress look because, as you know, I’m a sucker for a sweater-over-dress outfit.
When is the Next Hill House Nap Dress Drop?
According to comments they’ve respond to on their Instagram page, we don’t have to wait much longer because the next Hill House Nap Dress drop is coming in June – which means this month! They recently updated their Instagram profile to note that The Mermaid Drop (sound dreamy, doesn’t it?!) is coming June 16th at 12 pm EST. Set a reminder because they dresses sell fast and you don’t want to miss it!
What about a Hill House sale or discount code?
To my knowledge, Hill House pieces are so popular that you can’t find them on sale. However, here’s how you can get $20 off your first order. You can get a Hill house nap dress discount code for 10% off by signing up for their email list on the Hill House website.
