You might remember that back in September, I was a bit hesitant about a certain pair of culottes that ended up being part of my favorite look that I wore during New York Fashion Week! Since then, wide leg cropped pants have become one of my favorite things to wear, because not only are they comfortable, but there are so many ways to wear them. So to encourage you to add a piece like these into your wardrobe, I’m sharing with you a few tips on how to wear wide leg cropped pants. They’re especially great for traveling so they’re so easy to dress up or down! In fact, last week you saw how I just wore them on a full day of exploring in New Hope, PA and Lambertville, NJ.
I recently picked up this navy pair by Jones New York from TJ Maxx, and they were such a great find! They feel almost like athletic pants, but the way they’re cut makes them look so chic. They still have a navy patterned pair available online. Jones New York is known for stylish work clothes that excel in the comfort department, so it’s worth taking a look at this off the shoulder jumpsuit, these easy-to-wear wide-leg pants, and this effortless tapered leg pant. As for wide leg cropped navy pants, I’ve found you a few similar styles here, here, and here.
The most important thing when styling a pant like this is the length, especially if you’re planning on wearing a flat shoe. If the edge hits too high on your leg, it can make your legs look wider than they actually are, and if the pant hits too low, it can shorten your figure (this doesn’t apply as much with heels). Aim for a pair that hits a few inches above the ankle. It’s also important to be aware of where you’re creating your perceived waistline. I’m definitely not tall, so tucking my shirt in on both occasions elongated my frame with the higher waist of these pants. Untucked, the shape of my waist would have been lost, which is a risky move.
In the first look, a simple plain white t-shirt and a colorful pair of ISKAY sneakers (I also styled these fun shoes at Animal Kingdom in Disney) was just the right playful look for a mini golf and ice cream date with Shaun.
For the second look, I was going for something comfortable, but a bit more dressy to match the charm of the small, riverside town we spent the day at. A dreamy blue bell sleeve blouse and white eyelet slip-on flats (that are only $14!!!) did the trick. Before we left that morning, my mom was like, “you should probably iron that shirt” and I was like, “that’s too much work, I have some wrinkle release spray in my purse, and it’s hot out. It’ll be fine ????????♀️”. Well after looking at these photos, I definitely wish I would have listened to her, hahah! Whatever. Wrinkles are just part of life, right?
On both occasions, these pants allowed me to create a classy, simple, and easy-to-wear look. They’ll be coming with me on all my trips this summer because they can be worn so many ways. Aside from looks like these two, they’d also go great with a pair of ankle strap heels, a tank like this one with bow shoulder details, or a pink blouse like this or this (I just adore navy and pink together!).
