As a junior in high school my mother used to send my friends and I “Mindful Monday” texts to get us through the hectic and drama filled weeks of our busy teen lives. Now I am a junior in college, and she continues the tradition to this day with my college friends. I know I can speak for them and myself when I say having someone care enough to take time out of their week to inspire us means more than words can say. The least it does is put a smile on our faces and the most it does is make us feel loved each and every week. Either of these are okay in my book.
Today, I am writing my first “Mindful Monday” article for this amazing magazine that has been created to help and inspire people. Strange is it not, how life comes in a full circle? When I was younger all I did was write, whether it be songs, poems or journal entries. Throughout middle and high school I found english class to be so challenging I stopped writing for fun altogether. I was the student who waited until the night before the essay was due to put my words on to paper, and I would do anything possible to get out of writing at all. So if someone would have told me back then that I would be writing for a hobby, I would have told them they were crazy.
Even at the age of twenty, I have begun to see a small pattern in life. Most people grow up and have a sense of what is right and wrong for the universe. They follow a path that may not be right for them. However, once they begin to listen to their gut feeling, or what inspires them, they then begin to find their way. Life is funny like that. It takes you places you thought you would never go and you become someone you never thought you would be.
As you read this I ask that you open yourself up to new ideas and new journeys. Try and remember what you used to love doing as a young open-minded child. Somehow, someway life comes full circle and has a way of showing us where we are meant to be.
Remember…
Do not be afraid to let that 7 year old self come out and play. Sometimes I think a part of our younger self were wiser and less afraid to be ourselves.
Always be mindful, kind and inspired. More inspiration to come in two weeks.
