Don’t You HATE It When This Happens

So literally for months, in fact maybe even years, I have been so stinking frustrated with email on my iPhone because I could not figure out how to delete emails from my business account (there’s a point to this, I promise)…

My personal gmail account was fine, but on my business account, all it would give me was an “archive” option. Then, I would have to go back in on my computer and delete emails I didn’t need.

Now, to the normal person, that may not seem like a big deal whatsoever, but when your life and your business heavily revolves around emailing, it becomes an issue. I’d lose track of certain emails, so I’d mark emails as “unread” after I opened them so that I knew what I didn’t want to delete and respond to on my computer. But, having the little red notification for 3,548 emails in my Apple Mail gave me quite a bit of anxiety.

I thought I tried everything. I was convinced it was some stupid issue with my website host server (because why not blame everything on my website?). I tried deleting and re-adding the account. Messing around with options on the back end. I could not, for the life of me, figure out how to make it so that I could delete emails on my phone. I gave up and just dealt with it for months.

Then, yesterday, I decided that I really needed to get this worked out (I know, it seems like nothing, but trust me, it was really impacting my life). I went into “settings” –> “Mail, Contacts, Calendars” –> clicked my business email –> tapped “Account” –> tapped “Advance”. To my surprise, the second setting down literally says, “MOVE DISCARDED MESSAGES INTO:” and then gives “Deleted Mailbox” and “Archive Mailbox” options.

I could not believe it.

ALL THIS TIME and it was one stupid, simple, straightforward option that was right in front of me.

Instead of going into the settings of my phone, I was sure it was some bigger, much more complicated problem.

I completely overlooking the typical problem solving steps.

I started thinking and realized, “whoa, what else am I doing this for?” I get so frustrated because I feel like every issue and problem thrown my way always has such a complicated solution that I have to spend so much time and effort navigating through. Maybe there are other problems that weren’t so complicated, I just wasn’t looking in the right place and I was writing off the possibility of simple solutions off the bat.

Think about the problem areas that you’re currently dealing with in your life and business. It could be something big like making enough money to pay the bills or it could be something small like not being able to delete emails on your phone. Whatever it is, take a step back. Put everything else aside and start to become aware of what basic, simplistic solutions might help you get to where you need to be. I promise you, they are there, but you have to be willing to see them.
