Last fall, I completely fell in love with the voluminous look of balloon sleeve sweaters last fall. However, it wasn’t until I meet the Gal Meets Glam Collection Joanna dress that I truly realize how amazing puffy sleeves on dresses are. This puff sleeve dress features a romantically inspired look, classic button-front detail, and a square shirred neckline that exudes elegance.

Since I styled this as an easy fall look, I opted to style it with my favorite low heeled ankle boots (they are seriously and surprisingly comfortable). Puff sleeve dresses might fall into the 2020 fashion trends category, but I think the way that they wink at eras past makes them a timeless choice that always looks graceful.

Styling a puff sleeve dress outfit

I really lucked out finding this gem of a maxi dress because it can be worn on or off the shoulders. My shoulders are somewhat broad, so I do feel that off the shoulder pieces can exaggerate them and make my head look small, especially when it comes to a dress with big sleeves. Thus, wearing this one on my shoulders created a balanced look that I felt so confident in. If you are concerned about your shoulders, I would recommend gravitating towards an on shoulder style. If you have narrow shoulders, try something where the puff sleeves leave your shoulders more exposed to highlight your neckline and collarbones. Ultimately though, if you find a beautiful dress you love, how big or small it makes your shoulders or head look is really not a valid reason not to wear it!

Shoes to wear with a puff sleeve dress

One of the reasons I love the puff sleeve look so much is that while it offers elegance, dresses with puffy sleeves are easy to dress down, too. I was obsessed with the balanced look that these low heeled ankle boots gave this dress. Puff sleeves already make such a statement, so keep footwear simple with a seasonless mule or aim for contrast with something like an edgier combat boot (I adore the feminine style of this pink pair). Wearing a puff sleeve dress barefoot also offers a laid back statement outfit for picnics, gatherings at home, family photos, or other photoshoots.
