In This Post: A simple but stylish red dress with black tights and boots outfit that offers a classy winter look for holiday events, Christmas parties, and elevated everyday occasions. | Photos by Alex Barone
With our first inch of snow in the forecast last time, I couldn’t help but start to think about winter outfits! Since I never got around to blogging about this red dress with black tights outfit from last year, I figured this would be the perfect time to get inspired for the whirlwind weeks ahead. It’s a good thing that this is such a classy look that stays relevant year after year!

Styling a red dress with tights and boots
To create a classy casual winter outfit, I styled a fit & flare burgundy dress with black tights and black ankle booties. For warmth, I layered this look with a tan faux suede drape jacket (I don’t think there’s anything in my wardrobe I layer more with and you can find a full BB Dakota Wade Faux Suede Jacket Review here). Since this was last year and the exact pieces are no longer available (except for the faux suede jacket), here are some worthy alternatives:
What you need to recreate this classy winter look:
A red fit and flare dress
Holiday dresses in any shade of red are sure to leave you feeling like you embracing the present season throughout November and December. While I don’t shy away from red pieces in my wardrobe, I often gravitate towards deeper shades of red like burgundy and maroon because I know I’ll reach for them more often. One of the reasons I invested in this dress was because I knew I’d be able to dress it up for events or down for elevated casual occasions. This dress with tights outfit falls somewhere in between! Here is a selection of similarly versatile dresses:
Sadly, this dress was a Gal Meets Glam Collection x Stitch Fix exclusive that is no longer available. However, I do need to shout out that one of the reasons Stitch Fix is amazing is that you can often find unique pieces in your Fixes that aren’t available anywhere else. Black tights to wear with dresses
I love a more opaque black tight for a polished and also flattering look. For support and shape, you can’t go wrong with investing in a pair of black tights from Spanx. Or, for a more budget-friendly option, this pair is under $10 and has a great track record if you look at the Amazon reviews. For an extra layer of warmth, try a pair of cozy fleece-lined tights! This would look equally well as a red dress with black leggings, too. Here are all the details on my favorite high-quality black leggings that can even be worn as pants.
The perfect jacket to wear over dresses (in any season!)
Unless you’re new around here, you’ve probably already read about how much I love this faux suede jacket. You can dive into my full BB Dakota Wade Faux Suede Jacket Review or just take my word for it that this jacket is so comfortable and versatile. It’s not too thick or thin and it has stretch panels under the arms so that movement never feels constructed. It’s honestly one of my favorite finds ever!
Black ankle boots to pair with dresses
These Violet & Red ankle boots in the photos are another Stitch Fix find (here’s another reminder to grab your $25 credit!). The reason I reach for these so often is that the almond-shaped toe gives such an elegant, classic look. They aren’t pointy enough to be uncomfortable (or overly dressy) but the slighted pointed shape elongated my legs and adds a polished finish to this dress with tights outfit.
