In This Post: How many times have you noticed something you hadn’t before at a location you’ve driven by ten thousand times? That’s what happened recently when I discovered Daffodil Hill! It was so beautiful that I had to take photos there, and now this rose smoke skirt outfit is something that will always link me to this memory!

For most of my life, I’ve really underappreciated flowers. I thought they were pointless. Like, they’re expensive and then they look nice for such a short amount of time, and then they just die. But in my journey to finding more joy in life, they’ve become one of my favorite things. This is so cheesy because I’m talking about a plant and not even a person, but they’ve taught me to recognize beauty in smaller details, even if it’s only temporary.
Because I’m always running around in a thousand different directions with my head in a million other directions, I’ll admit I’m not always as aware of what’s around me as I should be. So, when I caught this field of beautiful daffodils out of the corner of my eye one day when Shaun and I were taking lunch to a nearby park, it seemed like a sign that the work I’ve been doing to pay more attention to life has been paying off. I’ve been driving frequently on this road for years and never noticed “Daffodil Hill”, but this time I did. How could I have missed this lovely scene for so long?! (… if it’s a new thing, don’t tell me because then all my metaphors in this post will be unaccredited.)
A few days later, we headed back to take photos for a JCPenney Instagram campaign, and the spot was even more delightful up close. When I went to the mall, I was literally thinking, “Okay, what outfit can I get that will complement the daffodils?” hahaha. I picked out this gorgeous a-line skirt, and I’m obsessed with the fact the color is called “Rose Smoke”. It also comes in ivory, black, and dark spruce. The denim tunic (similar here and here) that I paired the skirt with was perfect for a laid-back look, but I also bought this rose smoke v-neck blouse to pair them for a monochrome, professional outfit. You could also pair with a white tunic for a clean look, or a darker denim/chambray tunic to switch it up!
I felt light wearing this outfit. Not physically, but emotionally. As our first official outside shoot this season, it’s as if our afternoon at Daffodil Hill signified the official end to the fog of winter. Being able to finally be outside and surrounded by the beauty of nature lifted a bit of the heaviness of life off my shoulders. Now, this outfit will link me back to the happiness of our experience at Daffodil Hill every time I wear it!
