Shades of Change

In This Post: A review of Blue Planet Eyewear’s stylish, eco-friendly sunglasses and Ghana pictures from a recent trip abroad.

When they say traveling the world changes you, they really mean it. When I packed my bags for Ghana (more coverage of the trip here), of course I was excited for the arising adventure. What I didn’t realize, was just how much it would change me as a person. Nothing shifts the way you see your own experiences quite like seeing how other people live their lives.

I’ll admit, before I left, I was feeling rather empty – like I had glasses on that would only allow me to focus on the things in my life that I wanted, but couldn’t have. But, Ghana made me feel full. It showed me that there really isn’t anything in particular one needs in order to live with hope and happiness.

Not everyone gets the privilege of seeing the world, so I’m eternally grateful that I had the opportunity to spend time on another continent, and that the trip impacted me in the must-needed way that it did. However, everyone should get the privilege of being able to see.

As of today, over 750,000+ pairs of glasses have been donated to people in need by one exceptional brand. Blue Planet Eyewear [sp], whose stylish glasses are seen throughout the images in this post, is committed to helping restore sight to others in need with their Visualize Change program. For every pair of Blue Planet Eyewear sold, a pair of corrective glasses is donated to a person in need. A trip to Ghana by Blue Planet Eyewear’s Vice President, Matt Weinstein, actually helped to inspire the program!

Not only is Blue Planet set on building a brand full of purpose and philanthropy, but the sunglasses are also eco-friendly. I know that there are many obstacles when building a sustainable brand, especially with keeping production costs down, so I truly commend Blue Planet for upholding their values and still keeping every pair under $60!

I was thrilled to be able to take a few styles out for a spin with me in Ghana. I cannot get enough of the unique styles they offer like these vintage pilot sunglasses with purple polarized lenses (the “Lear”) – the color is so fun and the polarized lenses were perfect for spending so much time outdoors! I also kept reaching for this goes-with-everything lux round pair (the “Annica”) and these cat eye sunglass that add a touch of vintage chic to any look (the “August”). I’ve been swapping out the 3 styles on repeat and no matter which I wear, I got a ton of compliments on them. Everyone asks, “where did you get those?!” which is always the best proof a certain purchase was the right choice!

Matt agrees with me that Ghana will leave quite an impact on you. He shared, “My 3 months in Ghana, was for lack of a better phrase, Life Changing! Growing up in Los Angeles, CA with an abundance of fresh water, hot showers and food and the sudden realization of how much I had taken for granted on a daily basis was a huge shock to me. The entire experience was incredibly humbling.” When asked if there was anything he saw that that he wish he could show other people, he replied with the sweetest moment: “I saw a little boy who had made a toy car out of a coke can, bottle caps, sticks and string. The smile on his face was priceless. I wish I took a photo of him to share with the world.”

I am so excited to share with you more about my Ghana trip over the coming weeks as it was truly an incredible corner of the world to visit! In the meantime, if you’re like me and have been searching for new sunnies with a natural, but still standout look, explore no further than Blue Planet Eyewear!
