Although fashion is much trendier and stylish than rollover minutes from AT&T, fashion does exactly this each and every year. Style trends for Fall 2016 are looking pretty in my opinion, and here’s why. Forecasters give you the trends, key items, fabrics and colors based off of many things such as cultures, ideology, philosophies, the economy, and street-wear. Then, retailers put these garments in their stores made from creative geniuses, a.k.a. designers, who give us the power to choose what we want to wear and how to wear it (or rather they inspire the range of choices that we will get to choose from). Thus, creating the biggest themed party in history each and every year that every person on earth is invited to attend.
In the spirit of creative freedom, here are the key items that are trending this fall. Show us how you style them on your Instagram and don’t forget to tag #GemNation and #HitTheGem.

1. Dusters
No, not the swiffer duster in your cleaning closet. We are talking about floor length, usually minimalistic outerwear that can be ankle-length, sleeveless, or oversized. Like this one from Miu Miu’s Runway Show. Dusters are great outwear for Fall because you can still wear your favorite mid-length dress, and layer this over it so you aren’t freezing your butt off. Find an item like this at Topshop!

2. Faux and Fur-real Embellished Coats
Whether it is fake or the real deal you will be seeing an increase in soft and long fur coats this year. They are no longer considered your grandma’s pelts, and you don’t have to go thrifting to find good ones anymore. They come in every color of the rainbow too! It’s almost time to bundle up for the colder seasons. Winter is coming… (My Game of Throne’s people will get this one.)
Sacai
3. Shearling Bombers
Done the correct way this jacket can be paired with more than earth tone colors. Try your berry toned tops underneath it or like the model above some peacock greens and blues. This jacket becomes a triple threat with how many colors, silhouettes and styles it comes in.
Vipers
4. One-Shoulder Tops
You heard it here first, or maybe it’s the tenth time you’ve heard about the 80s’ one-armed top comeback, but it is coming in hot this year. It might be time to bring out your mom’s toga from her frat party days… or for a more sophisticated look pair your one-armed top with a pair of trousers and a choker. That’s three trends at once.
Portnoy Beso
5. The Trouser Pant
This key item is one of my favorites. Pair it with a moto jacket, crop top, peasant blouse or blazer. The options are endless, but you are sure to look grown up chic with any of this options. Just look at this!

6. Midi-Skirts
The boss woman’s go-to for work or play! Where this skirt to a business meeting or a night out on the town with your girlfriends or boyfriend. Also you only have to worry about shaving your calves with this look. Less time spent in the shower is always a relief.

7. Turtlenecks
If you forget your scarf when the colds winds are blowing in fall, no need to fear because turtlenecks are finally cool again. This top is like a miracle worker. Layer it until you can’t fit anything else on top of it with vests, blazers, jackets, dusters and chunky necklaces. Sometimes less is more like the top above.

8. Velvet
I know it’s hard to not think of Austin Powers in his velvet suit, but believe me you are going to want to jump on this trend. It’s grooovy baby.

9. Denim
Bring out all the different silhouettes because bell-bottom, skinny-leg and boyfriend-jeans want to come out and play. Not only are your staple denim jeans important this year, but so is what you wear on top. It is totally acceptable to double up on denim and look like denim Dan this year. Add some patches to your denim, distress them and give them a faded look and you will be the master of the denim 2016 style trend.
Alberto Zambelli
10. Metallic Details
Maybe you didn’t know, but metallics will be in full force this year. Instead of a one piece metallic top this metal seems to be melted into the garments or added on. Giving your clothes either a futuristic look or a regal and elegant one.

11. Chokers
These necklaces are not only for 12 year-olds, and they do not make you basic. It actually adds a little oomph to any wardrobe, whether you are dressing casual or going out in a cocktail dress. Just make sure to leave all gummy chokers at home.
Piece of advice: these Fall 2016 style trends do not define your style. The best way to implement them is making them work for your style, and let these key items express you. Have fun shopping!
