There’s a few reasons why I just adore this look. Of course, it fits right in with the jewel tone palette that I love to work with throughout my life. But, these tassel earrings became really special to me as I was wearing them.

I wore this outfit on the last day of New York Fashion Week (which ended up being my favorite!). For me, the last day I’m in NYC always symbolizes two things – 1) that I get to come home and knock out my blog posts on all the exciting things I did and wore and 2) that I’m at risk to have a major mental meltdown.

As someone who suffers from both anxiety and depression, I’m constantly in an uphill battle with my energy levels. There’s too much energy shooting from every inch of my being when I need to be calm (thanks anxiety), and never enough energy when I need it the most (thanks depression). When I’m energized and excited, all of my energy tends to be expelled and I plummet after, no matter how happy and joyful the experience may have been. It’s scary knowing that I needed to oweturn home to do what I love, but that my passion might not be enough to carry me through all the work I needed to do.

Fighting through those thoughts and overthinking the weeks ahead, I found comfort in knowing that the adorable tassel earrings framing my face were made by someone who knows what mental illness (and running a business) is like. Tiffany Butler, creator behind Trumpet + Tassel, makes tiny tassel jewelry that trumpets the heart of big causes. Over the past few weeks, I’ve proudly watched her open up about her story and mental health on Instagram. The comments on her posts are proof of how important it is to share our stories. Stories connect us, create change, and initiate important conversations around topics we won’t touch otherwise – like mental health. Previously, every purchase from Trumpet + Tassel helped refugees in war-torn N. Iraq rebuild their lives with the Light A Candle Project of Burn 24-7 Global, and now, Tiffany is working on coordinating a new partnership with a Mental Health Initiative – keep up on Instagram for updates!

These on-trend tassels said to me, “Hey girl. Yeah, you have depression, but it doesn’t define you. You’re going to make it through today, and then you’re going to make it through the next couple weeks, one day at a time.” And so, I used accessorizing to get me through my thoughts of uneasiness. The fun, chic, and free-spirited vibes these earrings gave off helped me live in the moment so that I could spend my last day at New York Fashion Week enjoying life, instead of stressing about all the things. Plus, the attention to detail Tiffany puts into her pieces is far beyond what you’ll find with many of the other tassel pieces out there.

The deep purple color of these tassels seriously paired perfectly with the emerald tone of this dress (which is seriously only $19.99). Reason number 6,286,362,943 why jewel tones are the best tones: you can mix and match them to look both playful and refined! Here it’s paired with my green Aldo shoes (similar lighter or darker pair) because, why not? I don’t think a monochrome look would have had the same effect as the purple, but I do adore the teal option as well!
