Before painting our living room, I spent hours googling the best white paint for interior walls along with the pros and cons of painting a room white. I knew I wanted to maximize the natural light that comes in through our windows while also making the space feel open and inviting. My goal is to warm the room up with furniture and decor, which I’d also like to be able to switch up as my heart desires. So, I thought the best plan would be a pure white. Something that wouldn’t have undertones to keep the look of the walls clean and classic.

Picking a white interior paint
We narrowed it down to Magnolia True White paint (bottom right), Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace (bottom left), and then also tried an uncolored Benjamin Moore base (top) for comparison. I was hesitant that True White would look a bit sterile. I wanted to compare it to an every-so-slightly warm white, which is how we landed on Chantilly Lace. After we grabbed samples, we primed and painted a few small squares to test them out. Here to my post on our living room rug for more “before” photos.
The best white paint for walls
Ultimately, we opted for True White by Magnolia Home as the best white paint for us. This is actually the base for the Magnolia Home paint brand, so you can just grab a can off the shelf without having it tinted (be sure to ask them to stir it for you though to make your life easier!). Not only did I prefer to color of the True White, but it hardly had any smell and the coverage was fantastic! Initially, I had to keep my self in check because I was ready to jump on buying anything from Joanna Gaines. However, it really did prevail and we were so happy with the quality (my husband agrees!). Plus, it’s made in partnership with Kilz, which is already a trusted brand when it comes to paint.
We are loving our white living room
We just finished painting our living room a little over a week ago and I am so in love with this interior white paint. The sunlight that comes in to the room in the morning gives the paint the dreamiest warm glow. In the evenings, I notice a cooler hue in the white as the sun starts to set. The color is everything I hoped it would be! It accomplishes my goals for the room, which is why it gets my vote as the best white paint for interior walls.
I can’t wait to dive in to decorating! I’ll post photos once we’re further along, but for now you can keep up with daily updates and behind the scenes shenanigans on my Instagram.
