As we get closer and closer to spring, I’ve been swapping my long sweaters to wear with leggings out for more feminine and charming options now that we can start focusing more on looking cute and less on being warm (yay!). One effortlessly chic style I’ve been gravitating toward lately are ruffle hem tops. You can’t go wrong with adding a few to your closet this season because the simple addition of this dainty detail gives everyday silhouettes a feminine flare to create effortlessly chic casual outfits!

While I always look for pieces that will be in my closet for years to come, I’m especially excited for tops with ruffles at the bottom to be a staple within my spring outfits for 2020 because they can be so flattering. Ruffle hem tops give a more relaxed, more accessible take on peplum shirts, which are already a piece I stand for. The right peplum top can give your figure a balanced hourglass look no matter what your shape is.
Among retailers, I’m seeing two categories of ruffle hem tops: ones that are more fitted and ones that are loose and flowy. When picking the right one for you, it’s important to be decisive with which of these two fit options you’re going for as selecting something in between can create a boxy, unflattering silhouette.
Recently, I snatch up this lilac ruffle hem detail top from Stitch Fix (it’s the Abbey Ruffle Detail Knit Top by Skies are Blue) and I fell in LOVE. Stitch Fix is a personal styling company I work for and support! You can get a $25 credit by signing up here. I ended up sizing down to an extra small because the looser look and lower ruffle of the small added unnecessary width (that’s why it’s important to play around with a few peplum type silhouettes to see what falls best on you!).
To embrace the looser side of this trend, I couldn’t resist purchasing this pink ruffle hem tunic top on my last trip to The Loveliest (the cutest boutique cafe near Pittsburgh that sells both coffee AND clothes – aka heaven). Keep scrolling to shop similar pieces!
