The Power of Pinterest

Pinterest is a social network that is also a virtual pin board. Pinterest allows you to create your own board where you can “pin” things with one common theme. Images are a very important part of Pinterest but you can also pin videos and other graphics! After you create a fabulous board you can visit the boards of other publicists, clients or PR industry leaders to contribute, share and like things on their boards. For a Publicist, Pinterest can be a great resource. When using Pinterest you have the opportunity to think creatively while creating exposure for your stories. Pinterest is a way to introduce your PR style to potential clients and solidify your brand with existing clients. Pinning can be a fun, small piece to a larger PR plan. It is a fresh, creative way to create a visual representation of your take on the PR industry.

When thinking of exactly what to pin there are many options. Don’t be afraid to highlight your favorite brands or other publicists. Maybe it is someone you have worked with in the past or someone you admire. Pinterest is a great way to highlight a company or individual and sort of pay homage. Pin PR blogs that you read and adore. You can also pin blogs that fall within the industries you represent. If all of your clients fall within fashion and the arts, pin your favorite fashion and art blogs. You can also pin things happening in your industry. Is there a new measurement tool that you think will benefit others in the industry? Is there a PR conference coming up that you attended every year? Pin it and spread the word!

Here are my top five reasons a PR Girl should Pin It!

  1. Pinning is an opportunity to visually tell your brands story with pictures and videos.
  2. Pinterest allows you to think creatively as it relates to PR.
  3. You can pin coverage on your clients. It’s fabulous for you, your client and the writer that covered your client.
  4. You can share tips and best practices of the PR industry.
  5. You can link back to your company’s website to drive traffic.

Make sure you have a Pin It button on all of your web properties. Check all of your links to make sure they are functioning correctly. If you are advising people to read something make sure they can view the content you are recommending. So, when you think of your PR goals and strategies what do you want to pin?!
