How to dress up a basic t-shirt // adorable ice cream graphic tee from Yummiewear

What’s in this post: I’m showing you how I dressed up (and down) the most adorably sweet t-shirts from Yummiewear in two looks from New York Fashion Week.

I often find myself living within the space right between the contradictions, which feels kind of strange (but shouldn’t) in a world where we’re constantly asked to choose between one side or another.

I love talking to and connecting with people, but I’d rather be at home watching Netflix on a Friday night than out mingling. A big part of what I blog about on this site is fashion, and yet there are so many days I walk out of my house in yoga pants with no make up and my hair in a messy bun (if it’s cool enough for me to throw on a hoodie, sometimes I don’t even wear a bra!). I’m a fitness instructor (yoga and barre), but I loveeeee sweets.

My favorite junk food of all is ice cream. Naturally, it was this shirt that initially had me falling head over heels for Yummiewear, adorable hand drawn shirts to celebrate sweet and savory foods in life. Creator Michaela Krivankova shares my passions for fitness and sweet things. Find out here how a cheat day when training for a figure competition (a form of body building) inspired the brand! You can also meet her sister, Martina, who does all the lovely artwork here.

I had so much fun wearing these shirts during New York Fashion Week. The first look is a great mix between put together and laid back. A sparkly skirt (which is something, in my opinion, everyone should have in their closet) can be a really fancy piece, so pairing it with a t-shirt makes it easier to wear day-to-day. Because the colors in the Donut Lips T-Shirt are soft, you can wear it with literally any color skirt! If you’re having one of those days where imposter syndrome is kicking in, just put on a cape blazer and you’re solid. Seriously, nothing will bring out your girlboss self like one of these. We were at an event by the water the night these photos were taken and it was SO windy, but this outfit is just too fun not to share it!

For the second look, I went for something more laid back for exploring the city in between shows. The cut of the Triple Strawberry Scoop Tank is flattering and feminine, so I felt cute and put together when wearing it, even though I had on sneakers and leggings (which I blogged about a while back). The Carolee bracelet (appropriately called the “Carolee Queen of Gems Beaded Bracelet” – it was so meant for me to wear it, right?!) also gave this a dash of elegance. I forgot the shirt I was going to change into for our show that night back at the room, so I just threw a pair of black ankle strap pumps on with the outfit and it still all worked out (see, that’s the power of ice cream right there)!

Yummiewear and Michaela’s story has an important message: that you can maintain good health while also savoring the good things in life. You can enjoy two seemingly opposing things – like fashion and junk food – and still look good every step of the way. After all, I think life happens between the contradictions. That’s what creates something resembling balance.

So, stop beating yourself up for whatever you ate, did, or didn’t do yesterday. It will only take away from the energy you have to live life today. Have your cake, but get your workout in, too. <3

Coming later this fall, Yummiewear will be holding their very first “Yummiewear Cafe” online where you’ll will be able to be a part of the delicious process by choosing both the style of shirt you’d like and what food you want on it! You’ll even be able to pick the toppings or sides you want to pair with your fave comfort food. Follow Yummiewear on Instagram so that you don’t miss any of the sweet updates!
