Nolcha Fashion Week, dubbed the “hottest incubator for emerging design talent” by Forbes, is in its 6th year of showcasing independent designers during New York Fashion Week, and today I got an inside peek on some amazing and talented brands.
Hosted at Fogo De Chao Brazilian Steakhouse in Manhattan, the Nolcha Fashion Week Fashion Lounge shined the alluring NYFW spotlight on an array of designers. Up first I met Michelle Pajak-Reynolds, who designs stunning jewelry made from silver and gemstones. Her collection incorporates intricate bead work, and an oxidization technique on silver that gives it a vintage-y, gunmetal look. A personal favorite of mine was the Michelle Pajak-Reynolds x American Craft Council Charm Collection Bracelet, and you can mix and match the charms!
Next up I spoke with Sharon Itayi, who designs bright, patterned scarves that can really make any outfit. Sharon grew up in Zimbabwe, and explained that her scarves reflect the native art of mud painting on huts. Made from modal-a natural fiber- these scarves are soft and would truly be so fun to wear. I loved the Lola Scarf!
Another talented jewelry designer I met was Fernanda from her line Syd & Pia. Her designs feature shiny brass and precious stones, and exemplify the raw beauty of nature. Both jagged edges and smooth circles are an integral part of her designs. Pictured below is her Monarch Infinite Frontal Necklace.
Lastly, here’s a shoutout to menswear! TaylordBlu is a line of men’s scarves, neck ties, lapel flowers, and suspenders designed by Marlin Jones. These really stood out to me – his designs are so classy and I’d be quite impressed to see any man wearing them (hint, hint guys)! Below is the Blue Plaid Daisy Lapel Flower.
I love getting to meet designers who are so passionate about their designs – it really comes through not just in themselves, but in the unique beauty of their creations and the stories behind them. Kudos to the Nolcha fashion team for the fascinating stepping stone they have created for these remarkable, independent designers to develop and flourish!
