In This Post: A note on holiday traditions and traditions along with a luxurious faux fur coat outfit. I’ve included a few more fur coats for women that are all under $200!

As I reflect on the holiday season over the past few weeks, so much is weird and different this year. It was my first Christmas with a pregnant younger sister and having her boyfriend (and his son) integrated into all of our holiday plans. They slept at a hotel down the street on Christmas Eve and I missed having her at my mom’s house first thing in the morning (since I always stay over that night).

I didn’t even put up my own tree this year because 1) I just didn’t have the energy to do so and 2) it’s something Shaun and I always did together (you might remember our trip to the tree farm from last year). It seemed like a weird tradition to carry on now that we’re broken up but still living under the same roof. My grandparents didn’t come over from brunch on Christmas morning like usual. We didn’t even have the Christmas morning waffles that I normally make because our waffle iron decided to kick the bucket…

Finding the Joy

So many changes, so many transitions. Most of them weren’t necessarily bad things, just different. Change has a tendency to bring chaos to my mind, so I had to find good things to anchor myself to in order to find pieces of peace. It felt extra special to hold on to some more concrete traditions like baking toffee cookies in my mom’s kitchen, putting my nutcracker collection on display, helping my mom wrap presents on Christmas Eve, and going with my family to pick out their tree (even though I didn’t come home with my own). If this is a holiday season that has been full of things changing for you as well, know that I’m thinking of you. I think that when the present is in flux, it’s always a good idea to see if there’s any joyful experiences or activities from the past that we can recreate to cultivate fulfillment.

Plus, a healthy dose of holiday fashion and traditional trends are also good for the soul!

A $50 Faux Fur Coat

While walking through the tree farm, I bribed my sister to snap a few photos of my fancy coat. I had walked into Target a few days earlier and this faux fur coat caught my eye right away. I was praying they had my size as I walked over to it! On top of looking far too luxurious for its $50 price, wearing it makes me feel much more fabulous and extra than I actually am – and sometimes a girl just needs that feeling! It pairs perfectly with a casual outfit like this one featuring a cozy cowl neck top (I also have an olive version that I can’t stop wearing) and plaid blanket scarf. It also easily elevates formal looks too – see it paired here with my go-to holiday dress this year.
