It’s all fun and games in the summer… until your makeup sweats off your face.
I used to be one of those people who could get away without any makeup on their face in the summer, but now I realize how much I vastly under appreciated those long-gone days. Regardless, I do enjoy putting on makeup and I find peace in spending a few minutes to myself getting ready before I have to walk (or I should say run because I’m always in a rush) out of the door. So, I wasn’t about to let the summer heat deter me from those precious moments. I was determined to find a simple, sweat-proof makeup routine that helped my makeup stay put in the summer, and I’ve finally nailed it down with these products!

Rimmel Stay Matte Primer
Primer is the most important step when it comes to sweat-proofing your makeup. It lays the foundation for your foundation (and everything you put on after it) to help hold makeup in place on your face. Plus, a little of your favorite face products will go a lot further with primer (and the less makeup we have to use in the summer, the better!). I love the Rimmel Stay Matte Primer because it is a badass at minimizing shine – even as the day goes on.
Sweat Cosmetics Mineral Foundation
I praise the makeup gods at Sweat Cosmetics that created this water and sweat resistant mineral foundation (no but really, the brand was developed by professional athletes who created the product their active lifestyles were missing). It gives very effective and buildable coverage, so you can brush on a bit or a lot, depending on what you need. While 83% of women reported Sweat Cosmetics outlasted an hour-long workout, I typically don’t wear it when working out. Instead, I wear Sweat (I use “Shade 100“) to keep my face in tact when I know a bit of the other kind of sweat is inevitable. It really does work!
jane iredale Golden Shimmer Face and Body Lotion
If you told me I had to go all summer using only one beauty item, this shimmery miracle product is what I’d pick. For sweat-proofing, I LOVE using this as an eye shadow primer or even as a stand alone product on my eye lids. It helps to keep eye makeup in place while also adding a hint of that sought after goldeny, glowing shimmer. I’ve also used it to highlight the top of my cheekbones, accentuate my collar bones, and to add some color to my pale legs in a pinch! It’s so versatile, and when I don’t have time to do my makeup, I walk out of the house with this on my eyes and cheeks plus a few sweeps of mascara.
NYX Professional Makeup HD Finishing Powder [c/o]
Your makeup doesn’t stand a chance of making it through a summer day without a quality powder to set all of it, and this translucent powder from NYX Professional Makeup is my go-to right now! Not only does it help makeup to stay matte while preventing shine, but it’s the perfect product for resetting your look later in the day – no cakey faces with this one because it’s ultra-sheer (even if I reapply it 2-3 times throughout the day to get rid of any shiny spots that pop up)!
NYX Professional Makeup Make Up Setting Spray Dewy Finish [c/o]
Personally, I don’t love a super matte look. I am a fan of that dewy glow. But, I find using matte products does give me the best luck in the sweat-proofing department. This Dewy Finish Setting Spray maintains the effects of the matte products and sets makeup while adding just the right amount of luster to smooth out the look. It also does a great job of preventing makeup from fading throughout the day.
Air Repair Skincare Complexion Quenching Facial Mist [c/o]
For rehydrating and refreshing my skin throughout the day, especially if it’s looking a bit dried out, I use this Complexion Quenching Facial Mist from Air Repair. For an extra refreshing feel, put this in the fridge at home or the cooler at the pool/beach and spray it when it’s cool! Just be sure to hold the bottle a good distance away from your face to get a light mist, which will prevent your makeup from getting too wet.
Before Makeup: Clinique Moisture Surge Intense Skin Fortifying Hydrator
If you’re like me and you start with dry skin after you shower/wash your face and can’t get away without using a moisturizer, this hydrating solution from Clinique is the best solution for summer. It’s a gel consistency rather than a traditional cream or lotion, and it’s completely oil free. It also absorbs quickly so you don’t have to wait for it to absorb before heading into putting on primer.
