He Said, She Said: The Inn at Westwynd Farm

Our review of The Inn at Westwynd Farm - a cozy, romantic bed and breakfast near Hershey, PA featuring breathtaking views, beautiful horses and daily gourmet breakfast.

He Said:

Have you ever stayed somewhere that made you feel more at home than your own home?  That’s how I felt during our stay at The Inn at Westwynd Farm.  From the peaceful, country atmosphere, to the home-cooked breakfasts and sweets, and topped off with the warm, welcoming attitudes of Frank and Carolyn (the lovely owners of The Inn at Westwynd Farm), everything about my time spent there screamed, “Stay here forever!”.

This was my first experience staying at a bed and breakfast, and while everything about it was overwhelmingly positive, I’ll admit that I’m a bit hesitant to stay at another one.  Why?  Because I truly don’t see how another one could possibly top Westwynd Farm (and my irrational side would feel like I’m betraying Frank and Carolyn).  From the minute we arrived (at like midnight, nonetheless), I felt like royalty.  I knew nothing before arriving other than that The Inn looked picturesquely beautiful and charming in all of the photos on their website.  I was delighted to find that the people in charge shared those same qualities, as well.

Aside from the people, there was also no shortage of gorgeous animals to be found around the property.  We got to hang out with some horses, alpaca, and a kitty who let Allyn believe they could be friends before running away at the last second.  There was a tranquil fountain just outside of our room that provided me with just enough of that water that I long for to keep my anxiousness at bay.  The details of the house were nothing if not quaint.  While it’s very clear that they are meticulous with the upkeep of the house, they also do a phenomenal job of preserving all of the vintage characteristics that give it its personality.  It should also be noted that while we were staying there, they were adding an entirely new section to the house to accommodate Frank and Carolyn, as they are in the process of lightening their workload and welcoming new innkeepers to The Inn.  From what I could see, the new area had a slightly more modern appearance, but still blended in perfectly with the rest of the house.

I could go on and on about The Inn at Westwynd Farm, but I honestly don’t believe words could do it justice.  Nor do I believe photos could accomplish this.  The only way to entirely and completely appreciate The Inn is to stay there for yourself.  If you’re planning a trip to Hershey and don’t book your stay at The Inn at Westwynd Farm, you’re only doing yourself a disservice.  And if you’re not planning a trip to Hershey anytime soon, rearrange your plans so you can experience The Inn firsthand.  It’s worth the trip alone.

She Said:

Let me say that my family and I have taken more trips to Hershey than I can count on my fingers, but this one was by far the sweetest.

Even though I’ve never stayed at a bed and breakfast before (so I don’t have anything to compare this to), I’m sure The Inn at Westwynd Farm is a special gem and absolutely that’s because of the couple behind it. I would have loved to spend more time talking to Frank and Carolyn and hearing more about their story. I can tell you that love is everything the inn is built upon. After all, Frank and Carolyn have been married for almost 42 years! Carolyn shared with me, “We met at a volleyball game. Neither one of us are very good at volleyball so we spent a great evening on the sidelines talking. He mentioned he had an MGTD, a car I had always liked and I thought this man is very interesting.”

Originally, they moved to the farm because their children were showing horses. With a whimsical location full of possibilities, they began dreaming up the inn and have continued adding to it throughout the years.

Dreamy doesn’t even begin to describe all of the details of the inn. Every single room has it’s own character and unique decor. We stayed in the Killarney room which was spacious, cozy, and had a breathtaking view. There was even Hershey’s chocolate ready for us to munch on. While I could have survived on sweets all weekend, I do have to say breakfast was delightful! On our first morning there, chipper Chef Dan had made the BEST applesauce I’ve every tasted in my entire life. The next morning I even ate a poached pear that was delicious (and I don’t even like pears). If you don’t foresee a trip to Westwynd Farm (although I do encourage that you need to make it happen), you can at least try out some of Chef Dan’s recipes on their blog (I think I need to make this biscotti pronto).

From the food and welcoming staff to the picturesque scenery and charming decor details, every element of our stay was wonderful (except for the fact we couldn’t stay for a few more days!). Even though we had work to do, I was so surprised by just how much we were able to relax in the comforting atmosphere. With Shaun’s work schedule, it’s been three years since we’ve been able to get away together, so I was far beyond excited for our little getaway. The Inn at Westwynd Farm far exceeded every expectation I had and it was exactly the serene break we needed before heading into the crazy holiday season!

Thank you for the amazing stay and collaborating with us Carolyn and Frank!
