In This Post: Trying to decide what to wear to a winter wedding? Shop these jewel-toned hues, bell sleeves, elegant silhouettes & stand out sequins for the perfect look.
Deciding what to wear as a wedding guest is hard enough – let alone taking into consideration cold temperatures and winter elements! So, I wanted to take some time today to go over a few options for what to wear to a winter wedding. While it is a bit trickier to dress for formal occasions this time of year, the jewel-toned hues, elegant silhouettes, and stand out sequins make it all worth it.

The Look: Eliza J dress // Sam Edelman Shoes // Carolee Necklace
I recently had to shop for a wedding and while I didn’t end up wearing this navy number (on sale now for under $100!), it was a top contender and it was almost my wedding day pick! I did wear it to the rehearsal dinner and also to a night out to see the ballet and it’s just my favorite. The fabric is a little thicker, making it perfect for this time of year. I cannot get enough of the cute hem ruffles and the charming bell sleeves. It also comes in a rich teal color that you have got to take a look at. I truly believe this is the most versatile dress of the season (you could totally get away with wearing it everywhere from the office to holiday parties, too) that every gal needs in her closet! But, in case you need some more options on what to wear to a winter wedding, I have you covered below.
Shout out to my mom for helping me with my photos for this post! Since Shaun took all of my photos before our breakup, getting imagery for The Gem has been a major stress and struggle. So, while I might not be able to create the storytelling, editorial content that my heart adores, I’m so grateful that every now and then I can convince my family members to help me get a few shots.
Long Sleeve Dresses
Long sleeve dresses are your best friend when it comes to winter weddings. They’re the perfect way to stay warm without sacrificing style. I love the look of a long sleeve, knee length dress – it’s both laid back and elegant. Plus, you can easily throw on a trench or long overcoat for extra warmth outside.
Sequin Dresses
Now is the perfect time of year to break out your sequins! The beauty is, dazzling dresses like these are perfect for repurposing for your holiday parties this season, too. Hint: shorter sequin dresses pair great with black tights and black shoes!
Jumpsuits
I don’t think I need to convince anyone why jumpsuits are the best. They feel like pajamas and make you look like a million bucks. So worth it.
Asymmetrical & Hi-Low Dresses
Sometimes, wearing a full length gown or dress can feel very formal and depending on the venue and the vibe of the wedding, you may be looking for something a step down from black tie type options. Asymmetrical and hi-low dresses are perfect for this because they give your legs more coverage for staying warm while adding a playfulness to the look.
