Now that I’ve been home for a few weeks (time is literally flying!) since June’s big road trip, I’m feeling a little too comfortable at home and longing for the excitement of experiencing new ground. I just love being wrapped up in the dynamics and atmosphere of a new-to-me city or destination.
In Charleston a few weeks I found a lot of charm and history, but there’s also a fresh, modern tone to it as well. That’s one of the reasons I fell in love with it – beach life and the vigor of a major city are both right there. When traveling, I’ll always prefer to stay at a hotel that embodies the atmosphere of the destination I’m in because I truly believe it extends and adds depth to the experience. There was no better place to experience the colliding worlds of Charleston than Hotel Bella Grace.
As soon as we drove up, the first thing I noticed was the pristine double piazza on The Delaney House and the palm trees lining the entryway. It resembled the oceanside vibes that I loved so much about the Mount Pleasant area that we had spent the previous 2 days in. I was surprised, in the best way, by the switch to darker, moodier decor in the lobby. The common area also had one of the coolest chandeliers I’ve ever seen in my life. From the aesthetics, I would categorize this as a hotel (which is a Residence Inn by Marriott) that caters to adults, but I really appreciated that no one seemed to mind that we had a baby with us. In fact, the staff was friendly, attentive, and beyond personable. One thing I definitely need to call out is how quick and on top of it their valet parking team was. I almost always opt-out of valet parking when I can simply because it’s not necessarily convenient to wait for my car depending on where I’m off to (and how late I’m already running), so parking efficiency is something I always notice and appreciate!
The edgy but welcoming atmosphere continued into our room. A distressed mirror, velvet couch, dark wooden furniture, and another statement chandelier gave the room a unique avant-garde feel. The bathroom had a sliding barn door, walk-in shower, and dimmable lighting that made it feel extra fancy. I loved that there was both a table to sit at and another desk area as I’m normally fighting with my family’s belongings in most rooms trying to get to the desk to work on my laptop. The room was spotless. I can confidently say that I don’t think I have seen a more clean hotel room in my life!
Hotel Bella Grace is conveniently located within walking distance to a number of restaurants and shops with plenty to do around, but it’s also positioned just on the outskirts of the city which kept the location peaceful and quiet. We left to grab a quite bite to eat after we checked in but then we headed right back to the room. I am one to use every minute I have in a new city exploring but I didn’t even mind spending the evening in because the presentation of every inch of Hotel Bella Grace was so alluring and unique. Had we have been there for more time, I would have loved to take advantage of the sleek, modern full kitchenette in our room which was complete with plates, mugs, glasses, and basic items for dining in.
The hotel offers complimentary breakfast at The Delaney House, a historic home across a small courtyard, which was so good. It was far superior to any complimentary breakfast I have ever experienced. There were so many options to choose from – eggs, biscuits, fresh fruit, made to order omelets, yogurt, oatmeal, pastries, AND you can even make yourself a mimosa! I loved getting to eat outside on the piazza to soak in the hotel’s beauty for a few last moments before we got ready to leave Charleston. There were more beautifully furnished rooms, rich with color and character, that we could have enjoyed our breakfast in, too. It’s worth noting that The Delaney House (read about the history here) will also add being an oyster house onto its list of features very soon!
Staying here really made me feel like I was getting a taste of everything Charleston has to offer and I loved it! If you are looking for a place to stay in the city of Charleston, put Hotel Bella Grace on the top of your list!
