The Look: Gal Meets Glam Daphne Dress (more sizes here and here) | Castañer Wedge Espadrilles

The other day, someone on the radio said “the 4th of July signals that Summer is basically over”. And I was like NOOOOO! Sadly, in the fashion world, it’s true. The Gal Meets Glam July Collection launching on Monday is filled with deep fall-ready hues and seasonally transitional pieces. Also, in case you haven’t heard from every blogger ever, Nordstrom is having their massive anniversary sale which means fall is coming because it’s largely marketed as the opportunity to snatch up next season’s most wearable pieces a few weeks early at great prices. How do us summer seekers find joy in this? Well, post July 4th also means all the Summer things are about to go on sale everywhere too to make room for new merchandise!
This post wasn’t initially about prints, it was about the stunning cotton “Daphne” Gal Meets Glam Collection dress. Originally from the April Gal Meets Glam Collection, I just bought it last month because I couldn’t stop thinking about it! From the moment I put it on, it had just made me feel so amazing and excited. I couldn’t put my figure on why I loved this dress so much. Until it hit me, this is a forever dress. This is one of those pieces that no matter what year it is or what the trends are, it will always look elegant and appropriate. It’s truly timeless. I also love that even though it has a casual feel, the fabric has a stiffer and dressier feel than what these photos give off. I never shy away from a stiffer fabric, especially in summer approved cotton like this one, because it doesn’t cling to you. I wore it on during my recent road trip to explore Summerville, South Carolina (more on this quaint small town coming early next week!) before we stopped over to Shem Creek for some dolphin spotting!
In my opinion, prints are the most important thing to consider when shopping on clearance for things you want to wear in the future. You can totally my elements of a silhouette work after their time. Like fluttery sleeves. They’re so cute and so in right now. Will you see them everywhere next season like this season? Probably not. But, if you by a flatter sleeve shirt in a timeless print, you can wear that forever!
Dainty, pastel-hued florals
It’s the muted tones and petite size of the florals in these prints that give nods to eras past, giving them a wear-forever feel.
Little fruit prints
There is no shortage of lemon print pieces to shop from right now. Large fruit prints will soon be too ripe to wear (see what I did there?), but smaller ones will continue to look fun and playful for seasons to come.
Polka Dots
Whether it’s on an itsy bitsy teenie weenie yellow polka-dot bikini or a timeless fit and flare dress, polka dots will never not be adorable.
Nautical Stripes
Have you ever existed in a summer where nautical stripes weren’t “in”? Yeah, me either.
