I have to start by telling you, this post is a big deal (and not just because the shorts I’m featuring are only $34!). It’s a big deal on a more personal level. Other than to go for a run, I rarely do shorts.

One night when I was in 8th grade, I had friends over and we were sitting in the backyard. One of the guys called me “whitey cankles”. I didn’t love my legs before that, but that comment certainly stuck with me. Even when I was dancing ballet 6 days a week for 3+ hours a day, I felt like my legs were never long enough, never lean enough, never elegant enough. My legs are what I’m most insecure about when it comes to my body. They’re always the first thing (along with my newly appearing forehead wrinkles) that my eyes dart to to criticize when I look at a photo of myself. I know positively viewing my body, flaws and all, is one of the skills I need to work on, but you can only work on so many self-development things at once!

I feel like the flow that dresses, skirts, and rompers have flatter my legs, but scarcely do shorts seem to contribute the same effect. So, while I’ve come to terms with exposing my legs and posting outfits that show them, shorts are another story.

My little sis and I got up early on the second to last day of our Universal Orlando vacation to explore and take some photos (I may or may not have bribed her with donuts). Since the rest of my family was still sound asleep in our hotel room, I didn’t even get a chance to look at this outfit in a full length mirror before we headed out. I had no idea how I was going to feel about these pictures, but thanks to these shorts, I can share them with confidence (and just a tiny dash of doubt and uncertainly).

I love that they’re flowy enough to let the fabric drape, rather than hug my leg. At the same time, they’re cut in a way that didn’t make me feel like my bum would be hanging out if a gust of strong wind came through. The curved hem gives these shorts a flattering structure that I felt confident wearing! With where the elastic waistband hits, you can wear a baggy shirt (because a baggy shirt plus loose shorts is always comfy) tucked in and not lose your figure. The tank I’m wearing was from Target like 30 years ago, but any relaxed shirt that’s long enough to tuck into your shorts will do (obsessing over the ruffled shoulders on this loose tank). Also, they’re as soft as can be and I know I’ll never want to take them off when the weather at home warms up! If you’re into the color but not so much the cute, check out these cute scallop trim shorts or this olive romper with lace, crochet detailing.

It’s such a wonderful feeling when you find a piece of clothing that flatters what you’re most insecure about, but the process of searching for those kind of clothes can be frustrating. There is absolutely something (in fact tons of things!) out there that you will feel amazing in, so don’t give up! If you have any styling questions, feel free to ask me in the comments! <3
